The Institute traces its origins back to 1852 when the Athenaeum Society started a School Of Arts and Fine Crafts in Limerick. Limerick School of Art offers painting courses which seek to provide art students with a broad range of skills that can be developed and adapted in a variety of ways. The Course provides the physical and intellectual environment for students to gain a greater personal awareness of visual language, and to be able to organise and translate that experience in the production of engaging works. It places emphasis on the procedural approaches to painting practice, familiarising students with basic tools, media and technique.
