Painting: Midsummer Landscape

Colin Carruthers is an artist driven and inspired by the grandeur of the natural world. He displays great technical skill especially as he captures the ever changing light in sea and landscapes.

’ Midsummer Landscape’ is a gentle whilst breath taking landscape so loved by Colin. There is still a sense of energy and immediacy in the painting but also a subtle observation of a typical British summer’s day from above high looking over the Cotswolds.

There is a sense of harmony is the painting. This is evident in the way the landscape merges with the sky in the distant horizon, but also merging rural seasonal colours. The viewer is left with a feeling of wonderment and timelessness.

Colin says: “"People often value paintings of a place they have visited, because they need to feel a connection with it and want to be reminded of where they have been. I want my landscapes to share in that sensation, but I don't simply want to offer up a superficial representation.” Carruthers has certainly achieved his goal with the painting ’ Midsummer Landscape’ and in doing so left the viewer their own rural idyll.
