Val Byrne succeeds in capturing an old-fashioned, slightly run-down quality in this oil painting of Kilronan harbour. Kilronan is the main port of Inis Mor on the Arran Islands. The remote Arran Islands are at the mercy of many storms and dramatic weather conditions. When the weather closes in the islanders become isolated from the mainland as boats and planes cannot travel. Val Byrne shows one small boat in the shelter of the harbour.
